The chocolate chip.
I’ve just recently discovered this. I don’t really like them. They’re waxy. They give me heartburn. I don’t really like chocolate chip cookies!
I have chocolate chips on hand all the time–who knows when I’ll have an uncontrollable need for chocolate?! But I don’t bake with them much (not liking the cookies and all) and I end up eating them by themselves. Usually they’re a coping mechanism. I toss back a handful like I see people tossing back a shot of whiskey (on the movies:)). When I get frustrated or I’m in a hurry I pop them in my mouth and I don’t really taste them.
My husband eats nice dark chocolate that comes in squares. Much creamier and better designed for eating “raw”. I think that’s what I’ll do from now on. Have REAL chocolate in the house. If I want it, I’ll have something good. If I need a “shot”
, I’ll do something else. Ideas?

LOL
I don’t like chocolate chips much either. I really like those little lindt truffles. Yum! They are so good and so rich, that only one or two… or sometimes three does the trick
They are kindof expensive, but I really enjoy them much more than I would a whole candy bar, or some other sweet thing.

Instead of eating chocolate chips, buy candy bars and keep ‘em refrigerated.

Hi, This will be fun to have another blog to read and comment on. Two of my favorite snacks or treats are Pistachio Nuts.. I have a jar of them at work – when I need a bite.. plus they are so good for you. I also have a drawer in my couch where I keep the little White peanut butter cups. I really love those. That satisfies my sweet tooth. Dark Chocolate is supposed to have health benefits.. so keep that in mind. I’m trying to lose some weight, myself. It is a constant challenge. My Dr was so proud of me last year for losing about 16 lbs. I’m scheduled to go back to him in Oct. and I’m kind of worried about his reaction. He told me the year before that he does not say anything if you’ve gained 5 lbs or less.. but I had gained more than that during that year.. and I’m afraid I’ve gained more than that since I last saw him. Will see what he says.

Hi Em! I love your title–My “Morsel” Enemy. How fun!
I think of chocolate chips as my friends though because I make whole wheat chocolate chip oatmeal cookies and I actually like them a lot plus they are mostly very healthy and the chocolate is relatively minimal. As you know, not everyone likes my cookies as much as I do (I usually cut the sugar and fat measurement down, too) so I do end up with a lot to eat but it works for me unless I eat too many. Goodness, I’ve said enough!

Thanks, guys, for your comments! I love those truffles too, Holl. I think I’ll try getting some and keeping them in the fridge (thanks, Merritt!) just for when I want chocolate.
Barbara, I’ve been noticing lately how much I like nuts, too. I do enjoy pistachios but I don’t think of them often.
Mom, I’m glad you have a good way to enjoy your whole grains with your friendly chips! As for me, I’d rather have a really rich cookie (or brownie– I prefer them) and get my whole grains in another way, like bread or cereal.
And just an update on chocolate chips: I’ve kept them around thinking that my kids “need” them so that we can make cookies. Turns out that they don’t even like the chocolate part of the cookie!!! So today I tried making regular cookies, added maple flavoring and walnuts, and everyone loved them. So I can officially retire my chocolate chips. Yea!

LOL! Kids that don’t like the chocolate part!! That’s amazing. They should get together with Becky–she has been known to pick out the chips and leave the cookie.

Yeah, I know. It’s been more than a month since mom posted the last comment . . . but I can’t help “weighing” in. I, too, despite being male, have chocolate issues. First, I have to agree that chocolate chips are near the bottom of my chocolate scale–for eating plain, that is. I actually think that I dislike more the big blocks of melting chocolate that Dad would sometimes bring home from the store –you remember, don’t you? The blocks were really more like pieces of blocks, broken, then wrapped in plastic wrap. The whole slab was 1 and a half inches thick. Dad (or even me, when he wasn’t looking) would take a butter knife, pushing, pushing, until finally, an irregular, fractured piece was presented–or even worse, a handful of fragments. That stuff was always too sweet. On the other extreme, I have found that I like eating baking chocolate–the unsweetened kind–even less (but tons of anti-oxidants!–like taking medicine!) (Don’t ask!). Of course, I don’t count chocolate-flavored chips as chocolate, so they’re not on the list. Somewhere in between is the “chocolate” you find in Nestle (“Nasty”) Crunch bars–
Moving from the bad and fraudulent to the ‘good’: In candy bars (not counting the hershey bars), my favorite chocolate comes in the Kit-kat–Low melting temperature, and very smooth. And Lindt truffles? Well, let’s just say that I am grateful for Costco and Sam’s Club, because they sell the things in large bags! sometimes even variety! (my favorite Lindt truffles had to be a special edition which were white chocolate, but also had cacao nibs (little pieces of unprocessed cocoa bean) in them). While I like good dark chocolate (Special Dark-no; Lindt 70% cocoa (or even the 85% cocoa) YES!–(actually, anything from Lindt is fantastic). I like Cadbury’s Royal Dark as a cheaper alternative–but it’s not as good for you, with a higher fat content. But what might seem an inconsistency for someone who likes dark chocolate is that my favorite chocolate is the extra creamy varieties—like the Symphony bars–with or without the toffee chips. Mmmm!
Anyway–thanks for the opportunity to get my chocolate out on paper, so I don’t feel like I have to sneak off to the store and buy some while I’m here at work!

Ray–Yes! I agree with you on all of that!!! The fractured pieces of melting chocolate, baking chocolate-ugh- I’ve tried it too. As far as good chocolate is concerned, I haven’t quite graduated to the super-dark yet. Jessie likes a 70% cocoa kind, but it just doesn’t quite do it for me. Otherwise, yep, I like all of those on the good list.
And I just have to add to the yucky list–Palmer’s. ~Shiver~
Thanks for the comments!

Oooh, speaking of yucky chocolate I just remembered that on my mission I had some that was really bad. It was like chewing on wax ~ One time a little kid shared some of his with me, and of course I couldn’t turn it down. But I did eat it slowly, (which wasn’t too hard to do, because it seemed like you could just keep chewing it forever), and saved the rest in my pocket until I could safely toss it
